First steps, then rewind
When Brackey's Game Jam 2020.2 went active, we all got to know the theme...Rewind....(No I don't mean that I said something wrong...that was the theme).
So what can you do with rewind? I sat down and started Mindmapping, what is rewinding? What can you rewind? What ways can you use this in a game?
After getting some pointers to what could be used, my mind went into overdrive. Should I do story wise? A hypercasual? Casual? Racing? Shooter? Topdown? Platform? What and how should the effect of Rewind be most fun.
So, the basic line would be: You start somewhere on a node grid, you could get back to another place on the grid...Which was in a different part of time. But how and why? So I created triggers. Should I use a navmesh for making it easier to navigate? Initially I did, but this was not useful (especially as changing position of the player would not work with two navmeshes. Also...there were no NPC's planned for use of a navmesh.
So, back to the basics. The triggers work. The portals work and now the story had to come together...Because that would decide which portal would trigger to what.
